Office of the Mayor- March 19, 2025

Mar 19, 2025

Dear Woolwich Residents,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to provide additional information regarding the controlled burns occurring at the east side of the former Beckett Golf Course along Kings Highway near Oldman’s Creek Road.
The property owner has obtained an agricultural land clearing permit from the NJ Forest Fire Service and is operating within the permit’s confines. This permit allows for controlled burns for up to 90 days, although the owner has indicated the burn will take approximately 20 days. Burning will continue until the end of this week and then resume the week of March 31, 2025.

The purpose of these controlled burns is to prepare the land for livestock, which takes a long time due to the large acreage involved. We understand that this situation is uncomfortable for some residents, and we sympathize with you. Please note that this is a temporary process.

Safety measures are in place as mandated by the permit to ensure the controlled burn is conducted safely. The fire company and police department are well aware of the situation, and we will continue to monitor to ensure the burn remains within the parameters allowed by the State.

If you have any complaints or concerns, you can file them with the NJ Forest Fire Service on their website at NJDEP | New Jersey Forest Fire Service or by calling 609-777-3373.
When completed, this process will help create a preserved farm. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this temporary process. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Natalie Matthias
